da poker: Tony Pulis has put the disappointment of conceding an injury time equaliser against Dynamo Kiev on Thursday night behind him, and praised his Stoke team for their performance in the Europa League clash.
Transfer deadline day signing Cameron Jerome gave The Potters a 55th minute lead, but Ognjen Vukojevic gave the Ukranian side a point with a late goal in a 1-1 draw at the Valeriy Lobanovsky Stadium.
Despite throwing away the opportunity to take all three points, Pulis was happy with his team.
“We changed the system to suit the players that we have got out here, and in the circumstances I thought we adapted extremely well,” Pulis told Stoke’s official website.
“It was a massive ask of them to change the way we set up against a side of that quality. But once again it speaks volumes for the character and the spirit of the players, because we keep asking questions of them and they keep coming up with an answer.
“We are obviously pig sick that we conceded such a late goal but that doesn’t take any of the shine off what is an absolutely fantastic result. We are playing against one of the top sides in Europe and we were more than a match for them,” he continued.
The side from the Brittania were without a number of key players, as Pulis made eight changes from the team that beat Liverpool on Saturday, which makes the result all the more satisfying.
“What makes it particularly satisfying is that there were a number of players out there who were starting a game for the first time this season, because they needed to get a game under their belts.
“We are so much better for the fact they have now done that and they have all stood up to what was a very tough test,” he finished.
Stoke now take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday in the Premier League, and will look to build on their positive start to the season.
