da brwin: Sir Alex Ferguson believes Manchester United’s 5-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Wednesday night was one of his side’s best performances of the season.
Goals from Danny Welbeck, Nani, Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov ensured the Premier League champions dominated Martin Jol’s men, and the Scottish coach was happy with the victory.
“I think it was one of our best performances of the season, particularly first half when we played some superb football,” he told Sky Sports.
“It’s not an easy place to come, as we have experienced in the last three years by taking one point from nine. That tells you have difficult it is.
“But tonight we played on song and continued on from the great performance on Sunday against Queens Park Rangers.
“We have had to make changes tonight. We have ended up with Antonio Valencia at right-back, Rio Ferdinand missing, so great credit to the players for standing up to the problems of today,” he stated.
Ferguson’s squad is becoming stretched however, as Phil Jones and Ashley Yoing both picked up knocks in the win.
Jones was removed after colliding with Clint Dempsey, but the United boss does not blame the United States international for the injury.
“It was an elbow, but it wasn’t intentional. We will be sending him for an X-ray tomorrow. It doesn’t look great.
“The other tackle on Ashley was a very aggressive tackle. He had to come off too.
“We are picking up these injuries at the moment. We are alright in the striking department, they are all available, it’s other areas that we are picking up injuries,” he concluded.
