da dobrowin: Even though just weeks ago it looked like a done deal, it now seems that Newcastle United may be much further away from a successful takeover than was initially clear.
On May 27, The Sun’s Justin Allen reported that a deal had been agreed and the Dubai-based billionaire Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan would take over the Magpies, succeeding Mike Ashley.
But in typical Ashley fashion, fans have since been left totally in the dark over the potential deal and there seems to be absolutely no concrete signs of progression towards a successful takeover.
Whatever the case, fans are now fuming as Allen, the journalist who broke the original story, seemed to begin covering his bases on Twitter this week.
The reporter tweeted that he never once said a deal was complete, and to be fair he didn’t, he simply said that the deal was agreed, and that the contracts had been signed and submitted to the Premier League.
However, several of the Toon Army think Allen is backtracking, prompting fears that the takeover is in fact a ‘fakeover’.
If he is confident in his sources, it does seem a little suspicious that the journalist would reply to a Newcastle fan with the hashtag “don’t shoot the messenger”, and the Twitter reactions down below are very pessimistic indeed…
