da marjack bet: Everton’s future looks, relatively, bright under Ronald Koeman. After a couple of thoroughly disappointing seasons under the inconsistent Roberto Martinez, Evertonians have every right to be positive.
da luck: However, the stagnation of Romelu Lukaku, the rawness of Ross Barkley and the likely transfer of John Stones make it a tough summer for Koeman.
He’s likely to invest shrewdly, as he always has, but Everton do not have the pull of European football or an ongoing ‘project’ that many Premier League clubs can offer.
The change of manager will help to attract players, yes, as will the significant investment, but there is uncertainty surrounding the club at this point in time. The top six is the target, and it may well be achieved, yet there is a relative lack of security that comes with new investment.
It could go the way of Roman Abramovich, of course, or it could see the club collapse in a heap like Randy Lerner. Early signs are positive, so it’ll be a fascinating summer at Goodison Park.
Here are SIX possible additions to transform Everton…
Saido Berahino
Are y’all ready for another summer of transfer waffle around Berahino?
We sure are. He’s gonna move this summer, you’d imagine, and it seems like it’ll be at a considerably lower price than last summer seeing as he has just the one season left on his contract.
Berahino has shown his knack for finding the back of the net and could yet be a Premier League great.
Gary Cahill
After disappointing all of last season with Chelsea, Cahill flopped at the Euros as England went out in embarrassing fashion once again.
Saying that, his experience and quality would surely be beneficial to the rash Funes Mori and the occasionally sloppy John Stones.
Ben Davies
Davies, after a wonderful Euros, will likely return to the position of reserve full-back at Tottenham and he may just be a bit miffed off at that one.
Tottenham’s young Welsh left-back has been at Premier League standard since a young age and has all the facets of his game to play a role in Koeman’s squad. As Baines comes towards his final season or two, a long-term replacement is a must.
Vladimir Weiss
Having left European football in January, Weiss might well be attracting a fair bit of interest once again after his stellar Euro performances with Slovakia.
His pace and dribbling ability would certainly add a dimension to the Everton front line.
Danny Drinkwater
Leicester look set to lose several of their prized assets this summer and Drinkwater could be one of several players to leave the club.
He’d command a princely fee, of course, but the Premier League winner can produce defence-splitting passes from deep that would be perfect for Romelu Lukaku.
Davy Klaassen
Ronald Koeman is likely to look towards the Eredivisie as he aims to improve the Everton squad this summer and there are few better options than Davy Klaassen.
The versatile midfielder can play in the role that Ross Barkley currently occupies, but is also adept as a third midfielder in a 4-3-3.
