Arsenal arguably need to win this game if they’re to stand any chance of hauling in Chelsea at the top of the table, defeat would mean Arsene Wenger’s side slip a massive 12 points behind Conte’s men.
Unfortunately for the Gunners, the Blues have smashed their way to a 1-0 lead at half-time.
When we say smashed, we mean that quite literally.
It appears to depend on what team you support that colours your opinion of Chelsea’s opener. With the ball high in the air on the edge of the six yard box, Marcos Alonso flew into the ball and Hector Bellerin to head home from point blank range.
His arm was high and appeared to have caught the Arsenal full-back in the face but the referee judged it wasn’t a foul and allowed the goal to stand. Bellerin subsequently had to be subbed off after appearing dazed in the aftermath of the drama. We’re sure supporters everywhere will be hoping Bellerin makes a full recovery.
As you can probably tell it was a controversial 45 minutes but it hasn’t stopped Chelsea fans celebrating the 1-0 lead. Arsenal fans? Well they’re rather annoyed, both at the referee and at their team.
The Gunners have had their moments with Gabriel and Mesut Ozil having chances to equalise towards the end of the half.
Can Chelsea’s visitors find it within themselves to mount a massive second half comeback?
