da bet sport: Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger have never had the closest relationship.
da bwin: During Mourinho’s time in charge of Chelsea, the pair almost came to blows on the touchline during a match at Stamford Bridge.
The current United boss has, on occasion, used the media as an outlet to deliver sly digs at Wenger.
The 54-year-old rarely mentions the Frenchman directly, but it is easy to read between the lines when he makes his criticism known.
Mourinho’s most recent jibe came during an interview with The Times, in which the Portuguese coach hit back at suggestions that he is a short-term manager.
The United boss has never stayed at a club longer than three years, but he has won the league title at every outfit that he has previously taken charge of.
Mourinho has a strong CV from his spells at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
Despite his short stints, the Champions League winner believes that he “prepares clubs for success” rather than long-standing coaches.
Mourinho hinted at Wenger, who has spent two decades as Arsenal manager.
The ex-Chelsea boss told The Times:
“If people say that because I move from club to club, they’re right, but I don’t think I am [a short-term manager]. I prepare clubs for success. I think I prepare clubs in a way where, when I leave, the new manager arrives at a top club. And that is not short term, even if you leave.
“If you’re in a club one or two years – or any job – if you leave a structure to be even more successful without you than with you, that’s not short term. That’s long term. You can be there 10 or 20 years and, when you leave the club, it’s ready for failure.”
